So what do Mustangs and Apollo 13 have in common? Mustangs NW club member Jim Joki of course! At the September 12th Club meeting, our own Jim Joki will share his experiences working for NASA on the Apollo 13 Mission. And then from "Out of this World" to "Bringing them into this World", Jim will also discuss his transition from being a NASA Flight Engineer to OBGYN, where he has now successfully delivered over 5000 babies! This is one meeting you don't want to miss!"
"A Man of Many Hats" By Kevin Crader
As the year winds down and Roundup 2008 has passed, I find myself still juggling many hats and having trouble deciding which one to put on first. I have been in this club for almost 5 years now, and shortly after I joined, I started assisting in several different aspects of the club. As the years have continued, I started getting more involved in Tack Shack, while taking on the role of events person for the past 2 years. I also became a Board Member and joined the Judge Committee. About two years ago, I took over the Mustangs Northwest website, and running the website has become more than a full time job within itself and I find myself in running too many directions. I find it is time to let go of several of my roles and just focus on doing one thing well. I will be stepping down from the positions of Events Chair and Tack Shack in January. I will still run the website and remain on the Board and Judge Committees. If any of you are interested in doing events or working in Tack Shack with Bill Smallwood III, please come see me and we can work on getting you plugged into the system over the next 3 months. Please remember that this is a volunteer club and without folks willing to volunteer, we would not have the awesome club we have now. Regards, Kevin Crader Mustangs Northwest
"Membership News" By Lois Robinson
During the last few board meetings, I have been given some interesting ideas of ways to change things up in the membership area. No I am not quitting! I am having way too much fun with all of you. One new idea was to email the renewals so beginning in September I am going to try it and see what happens. To help everyone, look at the label on your newsletter and it will tell you the renewal month. If you are due to renew in XXX month you will receive a renewal email reminder. If you do not have an email on record, I will send a paper reminder so you will be notified regardless. I will also begin in September tracking new members received since the beginning of January and also how many have we lost. The board is curious as to the growth of the club so this will be reported in the newsletter over the next few months. If you have some new ideas come talk to me and let's see if we can make them happen. - Lois Robinson
"Food Lifeline EventOctober 18, 2008"
Mustangs Northwest has the opportunity to volunteer and help again at the Shoreline facility on Saturday, October 18. We have the date but the time slot is not finalized yet, so we could be there either from 9 am-12 pm or from 1 pm-4 pm, and I am working with them to confirm where they need us the most. Because this opportunity is in the fall, and the club will be done with most of its shows for the season, this is the perfect time for more people to come and join us. I do not know what we will be repacking, but I was guaranteed NO SQUASH… I will not be at the September meeting but will ask the person who is covering for me to route a clipboard around and get those in attendance to sign up. I will be back for the October meeting and will do the same process there. If you would like to make this a fun event, then I challenge you to attend and get a team together. I will have a prize for the team that repacks the most food to help our community. If you aren't going to be at the September or October meeting and plan to attend, or if you have any questions, then please call me and I will add you to the list. - Lois Robinson "OPERATION 'BEAT THE BEAVER' HAS BEGUN" By Rob Ogden
Mustangs Northwest now has a top secret SVT skunkworks with the primary goal to beat the Beaver. What is the Beaver? It is Ron Foster's undefeated pinewood derby car. Yes, it is an The following is a brief recap of a few of the basic rules. The cars can weigh no more than 5 ounces, and the maximum length is 7 inches. No assistive propulsion devices are allowed. Only dry lubricant is permitted, such as graphite or Teflon (no liquids). Several new designs are now on the drawing board, any of which could become reality in time for next year's club picnic. SVT? Yeah, in a strange sort of way we are a Special Vehicle Team. I guess it's not really that much of a secret after all. Either way, we're hot on the Beaver's tail. - Mustangs |
