On behalf of Mustangs Northwest, let me be the first to Welcome you to 2009 and all of the fun, challenges and opportunities ahead of us!  2008 was certainly a successful year for our awesome club, and with all of the plans and preparations I have seen thus far, 2009 is sure not to disappoint.

If you were anywhere near the Pacific Northwest during the last month of 2008, you witnessed the power of Mother Nature and how a "little" thing like a snowflake can make its mark and render a whole region motionless, when it invites its billions of brothers and sisters to pay a visit for the holidays.  My family and I were not exempt from this power, and we found ourselves stranded a few times as we waited out the cold and prayed for the warmer weather to come.  Hopefully all of your beautiful ponies were brought in from their pastures and were already snoozing the winter away tucked safely in their barns—and if you attended the October 2008 club meeting where Dick Knight taught us all how to properly winterize our steeds, I am sure your ponies were clean, dry, safe, and hooked up to Battery tenders as well!

However, even though the snow may have caused a change in holiday plans for some, and perhaps some travelling inconveniences for others, there is no denying its beauty and magnificent power.  As the snow was falling outside my window, I was continually amazed at how something so simple and delicate could transform the landscape and make the familiar look somewhat odd and strange.  I have never seen so much snow in my entire life, and may not ever again—so instead of cursing the inconveniences it has brought, let us appreciate its beauty and majesty.  There is nothing like living in the great Pacific Northwest!

Happy New Year!
