“Sleigh Bells and Mustangs”
By Mike Godwin
Something about this time of year makes one both grateful that the season has arrived and at the same time yearn for it to be over and done with.
In the “Glad It Is Here” mood, we can anticipate that we will receive the parts that we have been yearning for since last April. If we do not spot a large or oversized gift hiding under the tree with our name on it, then we can hope for a NPD Gift card—one with several zeros after the first digit always makes the season brighter! Of course, that card gets even better if it has several zeros and the first digit is not a one. Stocking stuffers of home made coupons are always fun. My favorite is the one that says, “Buy any part you want” followed closely by the “Buy parts up to $500 coupon”. Yes! Hello NPD, this is Mike and Santa has provided, so get those parts loaded out and on the way to my house!
Others score the ultimate gift in the form of a set of keys to the new or highly desired Mustang of their dreams. Sure, this does not happen very often, but every now and then, “Badda Bing!” some lucky person scores the big prize. Just imagine being asked to put on a blindfold by your loved ones, then being led to the garage where you are asked to turn around clockwise three times. Then they pull off the blindfold, and there it sets, the brand new Mustang that you thought was only in your dreams. Actually, I am lucky this has not happened to me, as I would still be laid out on the garage floor.
If the UPS truck has not found your house yet, you still might have time to drag out a NPD catalog and earmark a 100 or so pages with bright red circles drawn around the items you would like to receive. Leave this out on the kitchen counter or placed strategically on a dresser or night stand. You never know, it might just work out to your advantage. One place not to put your catalog is in the blender. Hard to order from a shredded and soggy parts catalog. Besides, you must then come up with a logical explanation of “Why on earth would you put your NPD catalog in the blender?”. Don’t even try to think of a good answer to that question - there just isn’t one that won’t get you in deeper than you already are.
Then there are those who have been waiting since October or even earlier for the winter to pass so that they can attend that first show of the new season. The car was properly stored and everything is ready for the first hint of Spring. So the sooner we get past this Christmas stuff, the better, as we can do the Happy New Year thing and start a serious count down to the 2010 show season. What with MNW having their 30 Year Round Up celebration, plus playing host to the MCA Grand National show, who needs anything 2009? Let’s move along civilian, there is a show season about to begin!
No matter which group you find yourself in, have a wonderful Holiday Season.
From all of us at Mustangs Northwest, to each and every one of you readers, “Happy Holidays!”
