Mountlake Terrace High School Robotics Update

Kevin and Brandon Crader have been MIA from Mustangs Northwest, what is the deal, did he sell his car and drop off the face of the earth...?

Kevin and Brandon have been deeply immersed into FIRST Robotics and his time is consumed as he is managing the 6 week build of the Mountlake Terrace High School CHILL OUT Team 1778.  With the help of Coach Lindy Baker, CTE Advisor Craig Devine, and an amazing group of mentors from Boeing, Intermec, CH2M HILL, and other companies around the area, all work together with a group of high school students.  This year’s challenge is called “Breakaway”, and it has a soccer theme to it.  These high school students have 6 weeks to design, prototype, and build a robot that will perform a specific task.  It is not uncommon for Brandon and his fellow students to put in over 500 hours in this program between the build season and actual competition.

This year the robot will be sporting a powerful pneumatic kicker as well as Meacham wheels that will allow the robot to be extremely maneuverable.  This will allow the robot to move completely sideways without turning the wheels and will be able to pivot completely around the soccer ball without the front of the robot leaving the front of the ball.  This year’s competition will be held at Key Arena on March 25th – 27th.  Saturday the 27th will be the most active day.  It is free and open to the public, so we hope to see you all there cheering us on!

Danny’s Blog

There is a new Web Page out there on the Mustangs NW website, called “Danny’s Blog.  This was designed for you to send and receive emails from 1st Sergeant Danny Burky.  As Danny sends out emails of his adventures in Afghanistan, I will update the blog page.  I have also put his mailing address and email address if you would like to send him mail or emails.  And last of all, I created a forum that you can post messages to Danny.

I am sure he would love to hear from all of you.

Regards

Attention:  Charities Wanted!

Under every hood of a Mustang beats the heart of a lion.  As many of you know, Mustangs Northwest is dedicated to those causes that have captured the hearts of our MNW members.  Our club feels very strongly about helping out others in need and giving back to the community.  MNW has embraced the mantra of thinking globally, and acting locally, and has traditionally supported local charities and charities that benefit children.

Lois Robinson recently took on the charity advisor position for MNW, and is currently looking for nominations of any charities you would like the board to consider for one of our charitable donations at the end of 2010.  We would like to consider local charities within Washington State if possible, and Lois is requesting that you send her the name and address of the charity and then she will do the additional necessary research.  Any charity will be considered, and no decisions will be made until after we have the final report from RU, as to what funds we have available.
