Breaking News - May 10

From the Newsletter Lady

If April Showers bring May Flowers, what do May Flowers bring?  Pilgrims?  No! - Car shows of course!  And if you just take a quick glance at the Mustangs Northwest calendar in the “Coming Events” section of this newsletter, you will see that it is jam-packed with fun events and activities to choose from in the upcoming months.  From our official kick-off, “Spring Into Summer” on Saturday May 8th at Remlinger Farms in Carnation, to the “Big One” - a four-day series of events that we all like to call “The 2010 MCA Grand National”, there is an endless supply of Mustang fun to be had by all!

And speaking of “Fun” - Don’t forget that the Annual club picnic and caravan to Fort Casey is right around the corner.  This is a great family event that you don’t want to miss.  Last year, several club members met up at the Smokey Point rest stop, travelled up through Anacortes and over Deception Pass, before finally arriving at Fort Casey State Park on Whidbey Island.  Sunshine, Ranger-led fort tours, a great lunch, spectacular views, football, friends, and Frisbee, were just some of the highlights of that trip.  Make sure you mark your calendars, because this year is sure to be a great event as well!

I have been very impressed these past few months with the level of excitement and enthusiasm that many of you have expressed for our club’s monthly newsletter.  I have received several great submissions, stories, and pictures from “guest authors”, and for that I say “Thank You!”  Because of your contributions, you have really made this newsletter your own, and if you ask me, a lot more interesting!—So keep em’ coming!

Mustangs NW Fun at the 2010 Poker Run!

By Shannon Wolk

We had twelve teams attend, and other than a couple of teams almost getting lost, everyone finished.  The best natural hand was won by Shelby Bushman's team with a club flush.  Everyone brought food and 84lbs was collected for Food Lifeline!  Shannon Wolk would like to give a HUGE thanks to her mom, Liz and Ernie Greene, and Jim and Deana Couture for manning the stops.  And thank you to everyone that participated... Everyone had a ball!

Calling all Established or Aspiring Writers!

As you are all aware, Mustangs Northwest publishes an Event Magazine as part of Roundup.  Since this year’s Roundup IS the Grand National, we would like the magazine to be even more special as we anticipate a much wider circulation.  During my last two years of being the magazine editor, I always made an effort to include articles written by club members.  So, if you would like to submit an article or have any ideas for articles (including crosswords, puzzles, etc.), please let me know.  The article deadline is June 1, 2010.

Thank You!

Mike Zimmer

Many Thanks are in order to the five Mustangs Northwest volunteer judges who gave up a few hours of their time on Saturday March 27th to judge the Maltby Christian Assembly Pinewood Derby “Show” Cars.  Over 60 kids, ranging in age from 3 years old to 12 years old, competed in Pinewood Derby races and a “Show and Shine”, where they were judged not only on the speed of their vehicles, but also on their design and workmanship.  MNW judges Lois Robinson, Prasantha Jakody, Joel Schleppi, Rob Ogden, and Bob Doran awarded first, second, and third place trophies to the deserving show cars, and Rob even brought some of his spectacular Pinewood Derby creations to be put on display for all to see.  The Maltby Christian Assembly staff were very appreciative of  the MNW judge volunteer efforts, and are looking forward to loaning their Pinewood Derby track once again to our club so that it can be used during the Sunday People’s Choice show at this year’s 2010 MCA Grand National.

Mustangs Northwest Tech Session in Review

On Saturday March 13th, the Mustangs Northwest Judge Committee and Ford of Kirkland hosted a great Tech session on several generations and body types of Mustangs.  Using Lois Robinson’s 1965 Fastback, Dave Penwell’s 2007 Parnelli Jones, and Rob Odgen’s Fox Body as guides, instruction was given on how to properly clean, care for, and judge several areas and aspects of the cars.  Many thanks to Ford of Kirkland and the Mustangs NW Judge Committee for hosting such a great event!
