Let me just start by saying that cruising around the island of Oahu is a pretty cool experience—but
cruising in a 2010 Mustang convertible, is AWESOME!
For a few short days on our recent vacation to Hawaii, my husband Zebb and I were lucky enough to become the temporary “owners” of a gorgeous electric blue 2010 Mustang convertible.

Before arriving in Hawaii, we had made plans to tour Pearl Harbor, drive up to the NorthShore, and do a few other touristy things that would require renting a car. It was in that Thrifty lot, that I first saw her. Next to a few other Mustangs of Gold and White, she stuck out, as if saying “Pick Me! Pick Me!” How could I say no? It took a little negotiating, but I finally convinced my husband that, in order for us to truly embrace the Hawaiian experience and fit in with the locals, we needed to upgrade our original rental agreement and drive this Mustang around the island.
Because of our surroundings, and also the fact that I am an Elvis fan, let’s nickname this little filly, “Blue Hawaii”. Being Mustang enthusiasts, but not actual Mustang owners, we were given just a taste of what it feels like to be behind the wheel of a spectacular Stang. My husband took the reins of “Blue Hawaii” for the majority of our trip, and I was able to just sit back and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Hawaii, and a pony running wild in its natural habitat. I am sure we turned a lot of heads as we went galloping by.
“Blue Hawaii” was good to us. With her, we drove over 100 miles around the island, taking in sights like the Pali lookout, Diamond Head, and the gorgeous beaches of the NorthShore. We also visited the traditional, and more touristy places like the Dole Pineapple plantation, one of the famous Kahuku Shrimp Shacks (scary!) and the amazing PolynesianCulturalCenter. And what trip to Hawaii would be complete without getting lei’d at a traditional Hawaiian luau? We did it all!
Yes, we had a great time as temporary “owners” of “Blue Hawaii”. But sadly, all things must come to an end….I had to hold back the tears when we drove her back to the rental lot. But as we rode the shuttle to the airport on the last day of our vacation, I swear that I saw her driving by with a new temporary “owner” at the wheel. At least she was there for someone new to have adventures in and enjoy!
